Thurman Munson Game Used Bat
Hillerich & Bradsby model S44, circa 1977/79, is un-cracked and exhibits evidence of excellent use. Many ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible on the barrel. Ball marks include black ink transfers. Cleat marks can be seen on the left and back barrel. Also visible on the bat are blue bat rack streaks. Munson’s number (15) is written on the knob and top barrel in period black marker.
We have noted the appearance of black ball marks on the barrel of the bat. Since the labeling period is well before inter-league play, and the fact that during the labeling period, National League baseballs were imprinted with black ink ink and America League balls in blue ink, we should note the opportunities for the bat to pick up the black ink transfers. In addition to spring training games where the Yankees played National League teams, the bat could have been used in the 1978 All Star Game in San Diego 1977 or the 1977 World Series when the Yankees played the Dodgers. These were the last two years regular American and National League baseballs were used in the Series. Beginning in 1978, the World Series baseballs were imprinted with a different colored ink than the regular season balls.
A great bat of the Yankees beloved All Star catcher and 1976 AL MVP, accompanied by our PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity.
